"Silence" the only language?
Small conversations turn into arguments.
A simple misunderstanding morphs into a full-blown fight.
It’s strange how quickly things escalate.
What starts as a fleeting comment or a casual plan changes and becomes something you never intended. Maybe it’s just life, or maybe it’s because you’re constantly trying to navigate the spaces between what’s said and what’s felt. But when you’re around people you care about, you expect understanding you expect empathy. Then one day, they come to you, eyes sharp, tone serious, and tell you exactly what you’ve done to hurt them. They have examples, they have feelings, they have the floor. And you listen. You absorb every word like you owe them your full attention. You apologize, even when part of you wants to explain, because maybe they’re right. Maybe you did mess up.
But when it’s your turn, when you find the courage to say, “Hey, this thing you did… it hurt me,”
Suddenly, it’s all about you.
They don’t hear your hurt. Instead, you’re labeled dramatic. Maybe even “batameez.” Your emotions get tossed aside, and they tell you what’s wrong with you, ike your feelings don’t matter, like they’ve forgotten their own actions might have left a mark.
In that moment, it hits you that maybe you don’t belong here.
Maybe it’s time to fade away, to let go, because what’s the point of fighting for space in a place where your voice is ignored?
Even the people who claim to love you the most can put your emotions in a blind spot. Like they don’t want to consider that their actions have consequences on others. Maybe they can’t imagine they’re capable of hurting you, or maybe they just don’t care enough to think about it.
So you stop speaking up.
Not because it stopped hurting, but because you’ve learned they won’t listen. You’ve learned your pain doesn’t make a difference.
Funny, isn’t it?
When they speak, it’s confrontation.
When you speak, it’s audacity.
Maybe silence is the only language left to speak — even if it means fading quietly into the background.
